Good News for Rebel Óg Academy U16 Squads 2014-03-30 07:35:00

In a very positive move for the Rebel Óg Academy, our proposal to enter our four regional units in both A and B competitions has been accepted. This means that over 160 of the best hurlers in the county will be in action for eight different teams on the day, with every player in Cork having an opportunity to play at A level. The most teams entered by any other county is four. With the summer training panels to be announced on May 12th, it will be a final chance for all players to impress.

All eight teams will operate under the Rebel Óg Academy banner, using the names listed. These are the names registered with Croke Park on the GAA Management Platform and therefore, the ones we have to use for insurance purposes. All Rebel Óg Academy teams have now been registered via the Coiste na nÓg Runaí and Senior Administrator and all development squad training and games must operate under the new regional and county names from U13 to U16. While we would like to use the traditional divisional names, all teams would then have to be registered separately, incurring significant cost.

"Cork West"      U16 A & B        (Carbery Carrigdhoun Muskerry)
"Cork East"      U16 A & B       (Imokilly)
"Cork City"      U16 A & B       (Seandún)
"Cork North"     U16 A & B       (Avondhú Duhallow)

The costs associated with the day will also come under the Rebel Óg Academy's remit. With all four of the B teams, along with the Cork City A team playing within the county, buses will be organised for the other three teams for Saturday's group stages. I will liaise with the GDAs and the regional team managers in regard to various issues.  If any of the regional managers can get some assistance from other development squad mentors involved with other age groups it would be greatly appreciated. It will be "all hands on deck" on May 3rd, with eight teams in action.

Please note that the B tournament will run over one day, Saturday May 3rd, in Mallow.

Meanwhile, the A tournament semi-finals and finals take place in Mallow on Monday, May 5th, after the group stage on Saturday, May 3rd at various venues.

These dates are included in the Rebel Óg master fixture plan, so all players involved will be free from club activity. However, these are not dates for other development squad teams, so only games including players involved with the various U16 hurling panels listed will be affected.

Finally, when organising sessions in advance of the tournament, please note that club activity must always take priority, while the camp week of April 21st to 25th is a great opportunity to hold sessions, during the designated dates.

Rebel Óg Academy Administrator.
