Monster U10 Blitzes at Bantry and Bandon last Saturday & U8 Hurling at Clonakilty THIS SATURDAY

Last Saturday saw 42 U10 football teams from 26 clubs take to the field in both Bandon and Bantry for the latest of our Monster blitz series. The following clubs attended: Argideen Rangers, Clonakilty, Newcestown, Aghabullogue, Ballinascarthy, Sam Maguires, Barryroe, Ol Plunketts, Kilmacabea, Bandon, Kilmeen, Kilbrittain, St. Marys, Gabriel Rangers, Muintir Bhaire, Mizen Rovers, Ballingeary, Glengarriff, Bantry, T Mac Carthaigh, Ilen Rovers, O'D Rossa , Castlehaven, St. Colums, Adrigole, Cl na nGael.
Many thanks to the host clubs, in particular Tim McCarthy (Bandon) and Eamon McCarthy (Bantry) for their help in preparing pitches etc.
This Saturday, it's back to Clonailty GAA Grounds in Ahamilla for our next Monster U8 hurling blitz. Entries by text before lunchtime on Thursday.

Munster U12 Activity Days at County Grounds

We are now requesting entries for the Munster U12 football and hurling blitzes at provincial venues. Teams of 10-a-sied. Panels of 10-20 players.If interested, please reply before June 30th, indicating first and second choice venues:

  • July 16th/17th Football at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney;
  • July 23rd/24th Hurling at the Gaelic Grounds Limerick;
  • July 30th/31st Football at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork;
  • August 7th/8th Hurling at Semple Stadium, Thurles.
Brian Hurley 'School Of Kicking' Kicks Off

The Brian Hurley 'School of Kicking' got off to a rip-roaring start on last Friday night with 44 U13/14 footballers from the four surrounding clubs attending at O'Donovan Rossa GAA Grounds, Skibbereen. A two-hour session with Brian and James McCarthy took place, with the emphasis on using both left / right hands and feet. Of course, the night also gave these young players a chance to meet an up and coming Cork star, who was to the fore again with the Rebels in Ennis, yesterday.

The show moves to Bantry on Wednesday, June 26th next, with the clubs listed below to attend. Over the next two months all of the clubs listed will be covered, as follows:

  • at Skibbereen: O'Donovan Rossa, Mizen Rovers, Gabriel Rangers, Ilen Rovers - COMPLETED
  • at Bantry: Bantry, St. Colums, Muintir Bhaire, Tadhg MacCathraigh - WED, JUNE 26th
  • at Adrigole: Adrigole, Castletownbere, Glengarriff, Urhan, Garnish
  • at Dunmanway: Sam Maguires, Clann na nGael, St. Mary's, Diarmuid O Mathunas
  • at Leap: Kilmacabea, Castlehaven, Carbery Rangers, St. James
  • at Clonakilty: Clonakilty, Kilmeen, Ballinascarthy, Ol. Plunketts, Barryroe
  • at Bandon: Bandon, Newcestwon, Kilbrittain, Argideen Rangers
West Cork Sciath Na Scol Hurling Finals - Pilot Competition

On last Wednesday, June 12th, the inaugural West Cork Sciath na Scol hurling finals took place at Clonakilty GAA Grounds, Ahamilla. On the day, 16 schools were represented by boys teams, with 11 schools entering camogie teams.

From 10am to 12.30pm the following 8 schools took part in the ‘A' 13-a-side boys competition and ‘A' 7-a-side camogie competition:

St. Mary's, Enniskeane; Scoil Molaga, Timoleague; Scoil Náisiúnta Clogach; Newcestown NS; SN Cnoc Sceach, Knockskeagh; Kilmeen NS; Scoil Phádraig Naofa, D'way *; Scoil Phadraig Naofa, Bandon * 

From 12.30pm to 3pm the following 8 schools took part in the ‘B' 9/11-a-side boys competition and ‘B' 7-a-side camogie competition:

Ballinacarriga NS; Kilbrittain NS; Coppeen NS; Scoil Mhure Barra Rua; Laragh NS; Derrinacahera NS*; St. Finbarrs, Bantry Boys' NS*; Scoil Bhride, Crossmahon NS*

After a hectic programme of 40 games in total, Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Dunmanway emerged as overall winners of the boys A competition, with Newcestown NS winning the camogie equivalent. 

Meanwhile, in the B competition, played in the afternoon, Kilbrittain NS took the top honours, with Coppeen NS winning the camogie competition. 

With over 300  boys and girls lining out on the day, the day was a spectacular success, thanks to the combined efforts of school teachers, players and of course, the host club for the use of their magnificent facilities which allowed seven matches to be played simultaneously.

Hopefully, the day will provide a useful template, for an expanded competition for the 2013/2014 school year. 

Rebel Og Academy ProgrammeNext week, June 24-28th, sees the arrival of our 5th Academy Camp, with activities planned for Cork underage panels from U14 to U17 in football and hurling.  
While much activity has taken place at regional level over the last six months, it will be the first time that the Cork U14 footballers assemble as group, with 80 players attending on Monday and Tuesday, before being reduced to two panels of 24 for the inter-county blitzes on Saturday, July 13th. Further details of Carbery and Beara players involved to follow.
U13 Emerging Players 2013 ProgrammemeNext month will seeing the beginning of the 2013 Emerging Players Programme for U13 players (born 2000). As can be seen from the programme of dates below (venues to follow), all interested players will be invited to 3 coaching sessions and 3 trial games with regional panels then chosen to receive further training and play at County blitzes. The Cork Rebel Og Academy U14 panels for 2014 will then be selected from such blitzes.
