Large Attendance for Coiste Oiliúna Nursery Coaches Workshops
Coiste Oiliúna Chorcaí have been busy preparing the coaches of child players around the county for the upcoming season of blitzes and leagues in the last number of weeks.

The Games Development Administrators have been running workshops for coaches of under 8 and under 10 players to ensure they are clear on the age appropriate activity that should occur at these vital age groups.

County Games Manager, Kevin O Callaghan points out "Coiste Oiliúna recognise that this is a crucial time in the development of fundamental movement skills in children. It is crucial that coaches embrace the GAA ABC Have A Ball Programme and engage in developing agility, balance and coordination through fun and dynamic games. The children of today live more sedentary lifestyles and therefore, coaches must plan training programmes to ensure that children can move properly before progressing to the sports specific skills involved in hurling and football."

The thirst for knowledge among new coaches is encouraging. To date, workshops in Coachford, Riverstick, Castlemagner and St Vincents have seen over 100 coaches take away valuable tips to make their training sessions more enjoyable for children and in turn, giving the coaches the confidence to try out new concepts that will keep both coaches and players challenged for the year.

The workshops are designed to link in with the Monster Blitz Programme which will be rolled out across the county commencing on April 20th.
All clubs will be invited to send teams to these Blitzes which will take place in regional centres to be announced shortly.

Further workshops are planned for the coming weeks with Killeagh hosting Sean Crowley GDA on March 22nd. Carberry and Avondhu workshops will be held on April 10th with football Blitzes commencing the following week.

This compliments the huge volume of work going on in the nursery programme at present.
There are 40 clubs engaged in the nursery programme and this is also backed up by a Coach Education Programme which has produced 300 qualified coaches in the last 12 months.

If your club has not sent representatives to the workshops, please contact your local GDA who may be able to setup an alternative workshop in your area.
