Sciath na Scol Indoor Hurling and Camogie Series 2017
Sciath na Scol
Indoor Hurling and Camogie Series 2017
The Indoor Series caters for girls and boys in 3rd and 4th classes, and provides an opportunity for the children to experience Sciath na Scol action in an indoor setting. The competition is organised in a ‘blitz’ like fashion. This year, the boys and girls in 3rd class took part in local non-competitive blitzes. The 4th class hurling and camogie competitions were graded and then divided into different groups. There are 4 groups in 4th class camogie: Premier, Championship, League and Shield. There are 5 groups in 4th class hurling: Premier, Championship, League, Shield and Plate.
Across the different grades, this year again saw another increase in the number of teams participating. Over 380 teams entered with over 3,750 children pitting their skills against each other throughout the county in the regional groups which were played in January and February. Due to the large volume of entries, we had a total of 65 regional groups. These groups were played in venues such as: Blackrock, Little Island, Ballinacarriga, Donoughmore, Mallow, St. Anthony’s, Cloughduv, Whitechurch, , Riverstick, St.Vincents, Bishopstown and Glenville. Those teams who did not qualify for the County Finals received a commemorative certificate for their efforts. Each of the regional groups was organised by a local co-ordinating teacher on the day at the venue. I would like to express my gratitude to them for their co-operation and hard work.
The County Finals are taking place this week in Na Piarsaigh Hurling Hall. With over 24 teams in most grades, it is quite an achievement to qualify for the Finals and I wish all the participants the best of luck. I would like to mention a few people who have helped me organise the Series. I would like to thank: Coiste Sciath na Scol, Assumpta Whelton in the Sciath na Scol office, all those who booked, prepared and organised the halls, Mr Noel Forde and all those volunteers who helped run the Finals, all at Na Piarsaigh GAA for the use of their fantastic facility and their co-operation, the Ladies Committee of Na Piarsaigh for their hospitality, Ronan Murphy at Amun Graphics and anybody else who helped out in any way.
I wish everyone an enjoyable day,
Le gach dea ghuí,
Rúnaí Cúnta Indoor Games
