CORK LAUNCHED A brilliant second-half comeback to see off Galway in today’s All-Ireland intermediate hurling semi-final in O’Connor Park in Tullamore.

Peter O’Brien was the scoring star as he weighed in with 0-13 to help the Rebels reach their first decider in this grade since 2010.

The success sets Cork up with a final date against Wexford, who were crowned Leinster champions last week with a victory over Kilkenny.

Galway had made all the early running with Shane Maloney showing up well to help them be in front by 0-12 to 0-6 at the break and they were still in control as they lead by 0-14 to 0-8 early in the second-half.

But then Cork stormed back into contention as they outscored Galway by 0-6 to 0-1 between the 39th and 45th minutes with O’Brien firing 0-4 and Michael Walsh and Cormac Murphy also getting on the scoresheet.

Galway stayed ahead yet Cork had drawn level at 0-17 apiece with nine minutes remaining. However Cork who had brilliant displays from Colm Barry, Walsh, Murphy and O’Brien closed out the game in a powerful fashion.

O’Brien reeled off four late points, three from frees, to seal Cork’s comeback and clinch an excellent win.

Cork will play Wexford in the All-Ireland Final on August 9th, time and venue tbc.
